EMO 2019 as a fusion reactor: Companies get the opportunity to match Startups

From 16th – 21st September global players in mechanical engineering, newcomers and startups will present their strengths in Hanover.

We are talking about the biannual Metalworking World Exhibition, the Exposition Mondiale de la Machine Outil, also known as EMO. Machine tool companies from all over the world travel to this fair, which as the world’s leading fair is the industry’s most important event and sets the standard for metal working.

Around 2200 international exhibitors will be represented at EMO Hanover 2019. More than 800 of them, over a third, are from the host country itself. The focus will be on digitisation, which is characterised by the interconnection of various devices making industry 4.0 possible and the related automation. From artificial intelligence to machine and deep learning, everything is being done to make machines and systems smarter and more independent.

For this reason, sensors and software are being developed, with startups startups taking a central position. Among them we find sensors this year that range from energy autarkic functioning (endiio), to noise detecting ones that enable predictive maintenance (avalance) and thus reduce or at best prevent downtimes.

Unlike these two, some of the nearly 60 startups (that partly exhibit, partly are just present as a guest) do not produce any hardware, which means that exclusive software suppliers and service providers are well represented. Here, IIoT is also the keyword, however, who seeks e.g. a solution for the optimization of his product portfolio (soley), will find it in hall 9 at booth A30. At the joint booths “Junge Innovative Unternehmen”, that is supported by the BMWi and organized by the VDW and the one of “VDMA Startup-Machine”, 16 startups can be encountered at once.

Among them there are also young companies regarding technologies like Virtual and Augmented Reality (weare-rooms, oculavis), cybersecurity (cybus, resado), or additive manufacturing, i.e. 3D printing (amendate, cellcore3d). In addition, an online shop for turning and milling (spanflug), suppliers of industrial robots, which can partly be used without programming skills (dragandbot, gestalt-robotics), and a real pioneer when it comes to energy efficiency (gerotor) will be at the same booth.

The increasingly important role of startups is not only recognized by the EMO Hanover, it is also lived there: for the first time there will be a format at the fair, which enables startups to pitch live and thus attract investors and possible partners. There will also be panel discussions and a matchmaking session in the “Young Tech Enterprises” area, where SMEs and corporate groups will have the opportunity to get in touch with startups that have overlapping interests.
